Why use Chain or Rope with a set of Parking Posts or Bollards?

Using Chain or Rope with a set of Parking Posts or Bollards can often be the most cost effective & practical way of preserving & securing the wider parking areas often being abused by illegal parking or inappropriate vehicle & pedestrian access.

Imagine a 10 metre wide area that needs to be kept available for your own staff, there are various solutions with a varying degree of costs & usability that may help, including:

  • Fence the complete area off, and fit a manual gate or rising barrier (time consuming and costly).
  • Fence the complete area off, and install an automatic gate or rising barrier (very expensive).
  • Fit 5 to 7 Posts or Bollards, which would leave gaps up to 2 metres between each Post & involve quite a bit of time & labour each time when opening up the site for access or locking down the site at the end of the day.
  • Fit 3 Posts or Bollards with a length of chain between the three, the chain being simply secured by using one or two padlocks, this results in no gaps between the posts and very quick for access. In some applications the middle post or bollard could even be left in place.

What Type Of Post or Bollards could I Use?

There are various types of Posts or Bollards that are suitable for this type of use, with the main criteria being a good solid eyelet mounted onto the top or side of the Posts, most Posts can be adapted for this type of use provided the Posts have a solid steel top, Ultra Secure Direct will provide this service upon request.
Listed below is an overview of different types of Posts that can be adapted, and it is quite normal to incorporate a mixed style of Post or Bollard within a single installation:

Removable Posts or Bollards:
These can be ideal for this type of use, very strong & can be left in place or removed leaving no obstructions at all on the ground, ideal for locations subject to public vehicle or pedestrian access.

Fold Down Posts & Bollards:

Telescopic Posts or Bollards:
These are the strongest type of Post to use, and like the removable types leave no obstructions on the ground when not in use, with the added benefit of not having to store the post away as it slides down into the ground, but they are generally the most expensive to purchase, the hardest & most time consuming types to install. You also have to choose a certain type of Telescopic Post which would have a top mounting retractable handle for the Chain or Rope to slide though.
